Fun fact about North Wilkesboro Speedway: North Wilkesboro Speedway is BACK FROM THE DEAD!! After running its inaugural race back in October 16th of 1949, Wilkesboro was a staple of the NASCAR circuit as one of the sport's founding tracks, with legends such as Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip and of course The King himself Richard Petty to name a few. After a buyout from Bruton Smith and SMI in the 90's, the track was unsanctimoniously axed from the NASCAR circuit entirely, with nature slowly taking over the ground into the 2000's, with Jeff Gordon winning what everybody thought was the final race in 1996. It saw some life in the North Caroline Late Model scene with some noteworthy drivers like Chase Elliott winning there in his youth back in 2010, but it closed down entirely soon thereafter. It wasn't until 2019 when Dale Earnhardt Jr and a group of friends decided to weedeat the track and clean it up a bit so that Iracing could make a digital scan of the track to preserve it for future generations. The next year during COVID, the NASCAR Pro Invitational Series would hold an Iracing event at the track, and the very next year, the state of North Carolina would receive a massive grant from the federal government to help revitalize every single racetrack in the state, and Wilkesboro got top priority. After a grueling effort to breath new light into the track, it would hold it's first races in year, featuring a whole month of racing in August in 2022, with a CARS tour feature staring all the CARS tour stars as well as the man that partially made this whole effort possible from the start, none other than Dale Jr himself. Biggest of all, was it was announced that same year that Wilkesboro would host the NASCAR Allstar race in 2023, taking that privilege away from Texas Motor Speedway, ironically the track that robbed Wilkesboro of life back in '96. Now, the track is back and better than ever, featuring updated amenities, new lights systems, and that same old asphalt that made racing so great back in 1996. What a comeback!

Next Race: Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca Cola 600 on Sunday Evening (5-28-2023).
